Grounding the key to success

What does it mean to be grounded
? Why do we ground our children? Why is it so important that we work at being grounded? The notion of grounding comes from the world of electricity. The ground or Earth has traditionally been used to channel excess voltage from wires conducting electricity. Without a grounding wire, many tools and appliances would burn out their connections. This is how we "trip" circuits in our homes, when we place too much electrical demand on an outlet. The circuit breaker "trips" or cuts off the flow of electricity (automatically) involuntarily to keep from causing damage in the form of overheating or even fire to the system. The mind can be looked at as a potential source of electricity in the form of thought. What do you think happens when a person's bio-electric system exceeds its capacity to stay grounded? It "trips" out in the form of:

    • out of control children,
    • headaches,
    • insomnia,
    • stomach cramps,
    • low back pain,
    • loose bowel syndrome,
    • high blood pressure,
    • spaciness,
    • accidents,
    • forgetfulness,
    • obsessive thinking,
    • inability to focus and accomplish tasks,
    • sense of being lost,
    • lack of trust,
    • difficulty breathing,
    • anxiety attacks,
  • even epileptic seizures in extreme cases
    and more...
    .

The list of symptoms is as long as one's imagination because in a very real sense that is exactly what you are dealing with, the energy of your imagination! Thinking is the act of imagining reality. Electrical currents are byproducts of thought and are therefore generated by your imagination. It should now be obvious that not only what we think but how much we think must be taken into consideration when addressing issues related to the energy of the mind and specifically its ability to stay grounded. It is upon the quality of our thoughts that our destinies lie.

In our present time of manifestation the energies of thought and the dimension of mind have become extremely prevalent. When one reflects upon the past, particularly the monotheistic spiritual traditions of this last age we find that the pursuit of knowledge, the desire to know more was and still is a dominant feature of these lineages. Libraries filled with Holy books, ancient scrolls and the artifacts of conquered and long gone civilizations, represent the stored energies of the mind. The idea of God being above and attempting to ascend by folding the legs underneath and projecting the mind into the heavenly realms of thought exemplify this era. Even the pursuit of science can be seen as a spiritual mind tradition as we attempt to get to the bottom of physical reality through the journey of thought.

It is the nature of reality to seek balance. The source of the pursuit of knowledge is of course of a lack of knowledge. Some say this desire being stimulated after having tasted the fruit of the tree of knowledge. We have been more then a little successful in this quest. Just open any publication, click on the internet or simply flip on your television and you will be inundated with the energies of thought. It is as if the whole of humanity is attempting to express its imagination all at the same time. It is an absolute bombardment of ideas, imagery, calculations, predictions, reflections, opinions and on and on and on all accessed from our minds. Incredible right? But when is enough, enough? It is as though we have opened Pandora’s Box with every thought possible flying out in every direction right or wrong, good or bad. So many ideas, so many choices, how do we decide, what do we do, where do we go, and how do we begin? The voltage of thought is off the chart!

This is the perfect environment to loose one’s grounding in. The conditions for our minds, our imaginations to become overcharged are ideal. The ideas of the heavenly realms and the potential of thought are everywhere today. The challenge now is how do we get anything done with so much potential energy basically overloading our mind circuitry as we simply can’t stop thinking long enough to actualize our thoughts. We must ground the energy. We must be sure that we have the ability to allow the unnecessary ideas to continue moving through our consciousness fields and into the Earth. Remember the Earth was the original grounding circuit used by electricians. The body is how the mind connects to the Earth.

In our ancient and not so ancient past, life kept us grounded. We lived by using our bodies through hard labor and working with the physical reality. Tasks such as farming, building, digging, waging war, giving birth, chopping wood, caring for our elders, our livestock simply the day to day tasks that made life possible all kept us grounded. For many of us, all we knew was earth. The life of a slave is a perfect example of this. This is an existence to which the concept of Hell existing inside of the Earth makes sense. If you were anywhere it was in your body you had no way out, to not be could mean an early, uncomfortable death.
Deep intellectual meanderings were reserved only for the smallest minority of the elite social classes. The enlightenment for those days was to get out of base life and into the more subtle realms of thought. Today everyone is filled with ideas. Everyone sees him or herself as The Boss
(mind). As individuals in this society, we have developed an increasing need to see our ideas manifest into physical form. We have a deep disdain for the Slave (body) aspect, the worker in the body. But it is through the body that the mind effects and is affected by our reality unless of course you have slaves to labor for you.

Another little known element that is a product of our modern world which makes staying grounding difficult is what is known as electro-smogs. Electro-smogs are the emanations from all of the different electronic gadgets that we use today. Micro waves, cell phone radiation, static electricity, and whole host of technologies, many we may know nothing of. All of this energy is moving around and through us affecting our experience of being alive causing us to become over stimulated and to move about with our heads in the clouds. Many of us also live in homes with artificial building materials, plastics, nylon rugs, and a potential host of man-made materials that can act as insulation from the flow of natural life force.
By natural life force I mean the energy of the wind, the sounds and smells of moving water, and the grounding and cooling elements of bare Earth. These forces are a part of us and by insulating ourselves from them in homes and clothing built from synthetics, driving aluminum vehicles insulated from the ground with rubber tires, we can disconnect ourselves from the intelligence of the natural world. Then our only source of energy comes from our man made, artificial world whose emanations may not be ideal for the recovery and maintenance of life. In a future article we will focus on the physics of living as some call it. We will highlight foods, forms and structures that support the flow of life force and those that tend to disconnect this flow. It's really fascinating and prevalent information.

Continuing on, in a competitive world where the standard for success is one’s ability to actualize one’s thoughts, grounding is our spiritual work. By that I mean it is what we collectively require, in order to feel satisfied with our present situation on Earth. Every generation has a different need to validate our lives. Ideas are a dime a dozen today but he or she who can focus through the mental fog is the one who is leading a satisfying existence in this brave new world.

As an example, I recently had an article published in a local free periodical, so I proposed to the publisher that we make a deal. I send articles, my ideas for free which I thought would help them out, and in return I get my ideas out to a broader audience. I was scoffed at!  The publisher let me know in no uncertain terms that "everyone wants to write articles and is full of ideas... and what I could do for them was buy an add in their publication!" Amazing but a perfect example of the present day. What she was communicating was we have enough mind (ideas), we want Earth (money, matter, physical means) so we can ground out our ideas in the physical realm. This was a classic grounding experience for me to say the least but the truth of the times nevertheless. The mind thought one thing but physical reality was another ie: the lesson.

So how do we stay or get grounded? How do we stay realistic in the face of our wildest dreams? Work. Endeavor. Strive. We work in our suits of flesh. We must use and develop our grounding circuitry which is our body, particularly the lower extremities, the legs. Balanced time on our feet. The more mind voltage you want to safely conduct then the greater must be your connection to your body, your gut feelings. By working in physical reality we engage worldly cause and effect and thus adapt accordingly. This helps keep us realistic about what’s possible. When the former Soviet Union collapsed, the people who rose to power tended to be from one of two extremely grounded lineages:

  • The former military/police force and organized crime.

Do you know why? Because they were the closest to the Earth in terms of what was possible. Right or wrong, lives of intense physical reality leave little room for self deceptive thoughts, daydreaming or spaciness. You know what this is really all about. Be strong and realistic about your ideas and you’ll succeed. We can’t all do everything and we are not supposed to. By being grounded, our imagination and wishes will be in accordance with what is possible for us.That is true spiritual work. To be aligned with oneself one’s Heaven (mind) and Earth(body) is the playground of the soul. The great thing about being a human is that we have the ability to increase our capacity to ground ideas(voltage). Here are some ways we can accomplish this task, some more humorous than others:

  • the ku takka lunge dance
  • engaging physical labor of any sort
  • weightlifting with proper form
  • wearing ankle weights
  • wear your pants sagging like the youth of today
  • cold water emmersion
  • gardening
  • caring for animals
  • caring for children
  • caring for the sick, weak and elderly
  • eating meat ( many people have chosen not to eat flesh but it is a physical reality that it is edible and denial of this potential truth can be an un grounding thought in this reality! )
  • working with stones
  • drumming
  • hiking
  • sleeping on the ground level or upon the Earth herself
  • going to prison
  • being committed and focused
  • letting go of unrealistic thoughts
  • being unafraid

Get grounded today and accomplish your dreams.

An Earth Immersion session extreme! Check out the sessions and lessons page for more about this powerful grounding practice.
This is Old School grounding, pulling a cart full of bricks up Mt. Qingshen in Sichuan province, China. The sort of work most of us no longer do, here in the United States.
These guys are deep in their bodies. Grounding for them is not the issue. They carry loads (including people!) up and down the mountain all day long! Supporting and caring about others. These were some of the most vital humans I have ever witnessed.
